Scott graduated in the top half of his class from the University of Nebraska College of Law in 2014. While a student at Nebraska Law, Scott was awarded the Order of the Barristers recognizing his skill in the courtroom and was twice awarded the CALI Excellence for the Future Award, an award reserved for those earning the highest grade in the courses in which they were enrolled. Scott also earned coveted seats on the Collegeâs mock trial and moot court teams. Prior to establishing Scott Shoemaker and Associates, P.L.C., Scott worked in the legal department of NCS Pearson, Inc., negotiating complex, high-dollar-value contracts for state assessment products.
Outside of work, Scott exhibits a strong commitment to community service, having served as the President of the Board of Directors for Cedar Rapids PrideFest, Secretary of the Board of Directors of PFLAG Cedar Rapids, Secretary of the Board of Directors of Family Promise of Linn County, as a director of the Iowa Music and Arts Association where he helps plan the annual and award-winning Tournament of Drums drum corps competition. He has also served on the board of directors for the Alliance Center of Linn County, on the advisory counsel for the Boys and Girls Club of Cedar Rapids LGBT Youth Initiative, and on the Session of Westminster Presbyterian Church.
Scott has been married to his wife Amy since 2010. They have two children, Joey and Elizabeth.
